Advanced Methods Workshop

The workshops will be designed to facilitate interdisciplinary projects. The doctoral researchers will independently work through a small but realistic example of research topics.

Please note: GRK2062 doctoral students have to attend Advanced Methods Workshops generating a minimum of 2.0 ECTS (0.5 ECTS/day).

The following workshops are planned:

Microfabrication for synthetic biology (microfluidics, soft lithography, etc.) (Simmel)

Methods and concepts in glycobiology (Hoffmann-Röder).

Past workshops:

Methods and concepts in protein design: Molecular Engineering in Bacteria (Jung/Lassak)

Synthetic Biology demands for efficient strategies to genetically manipulate microorganisms. In this research course we will use various molecular tools to learn how to efficiently introduce genetic material into diverse bacteria. Thus, we will focus on the three major principles of gene transfer in prokaryotes – transformation, transduction and conjugation.
The week-long course will take place April 9-13, 2018.

Click Chemistry

The group of Thomas Carell exclusively offers a methods workshop dealing with click chemistry. The workshop will take place from July 20-21, 2016 at the LMU department of chemistry.
Click chemistry is a chemical technology, which allows joining small molecules in a fast and safe way to generate new and “artificial” substances. The following methods/applications will be introduced with direct relation to click chemistry:

  • Bioconjugation
  • Polymer chemistry
  • Nanotechnology
  • Nucleic acid labeling
  • Protein labeling

Chemical reaction kinetics of well-mixed systems

For those who want a deeper understanding of methods of Theoretical Physics, Erwin Frey could arrange your participation in lectures of Chase Broedersz and Ulrich Gerland (from January 11 to February 8, 2016). Please be aware that for understanding mathematical knowledge is required.
